French Lessons
Anne Roxbury
Jeff plodded slowly into his math class. Having to return to school was such a drag after summer vacation. He didn‘t much care for the algebra but, as a sophomore, he had to have two credits of it to graduate. He found an empty seat near a window; it would let him daydream and stare outside at the clear, bright day that was passing him by as he wasted his time in a stuffy classroom.
He slouched down and waited for the teacher to come. To kill the time, he studied the other students in his class. He knew most of them, had gone to school with most of them. One or two he had known, seemingly, for every instant of his sixteen years of life. Jeff was resigning himself to another dreary class with the same tired old faces when she walked in.
